Well, I have one week left in the classroom as a Long-Term Substitute and then it's back to day-to-day substitute teaching! Being in the classroom full-time has been nice for a lot of reasons - one reason being that the more time I have establishing my authority with students, the less formal I can dress. This doesn't mean I come to school in jeans every day, but it does mean I don't feel like I have to wear my power-pumps every day! Ha!
When I started substitute teaching on a regular basis I found that I was "dressing like the first day" every day. I believe that high school students take a teacher more seriously when they're dressed more professionally (see my thoughts on that here) so on the first day of school I always dress very professionally. When you're subbing, you see students for the first time each day. So, I wore my "I mean business" work pants to match my "I mean business" attitude.
In the fall when I started subbing more frequently, I started adding more "professional" clothing to my wardrobe. As I am looking back through my closet, starting to think of day-to-day subbing again, I realize that the Worthington brand from JCPenney fills the professional-wear side of my wardrobe. Not only are they great quality, but they are frequently on sale. The classic dress pants I'm wearing in this post will always stay in style and the Worthington crewneck sweaters and collared shirts can be mixed and matched to make endless combinations.
Though I wouldn't consider this outfit incredibly creative, it's a great example of how I combine these classic pieces to create a professional work outfit.

You certainly look professional wearing those trousers.
ReplyDeleteI tend to wear trousers regularly to the office during the winter
Thanks Rebecca! I wear them in the winter a lot too! I love pencil skirts for work but during the winter it's just too cold!
