My favorite thing to wear in the fall is an oversized square blanket scarf! When I unpacked the box which contained my blanket scarves I squealed with delight (I'm not even kidding...)! As the temperatures start to drop, wearing an oversized scarf keeps me warm and cozy when I venture outside and serves as a wonderful wrap/shawl when I'm indoors and my arms get chilly. But I have learned that not everyone knows how to tie a blanket scarf and I have to admit that I had to "research" it when I first got interested. A number of people have asked how I tie my blanket scarves so today I'm starting a series on the many ways to tie a blanket scarf.
The blanket scarf I'm wearing in this post is my personal favorite oversized, square scarf. It hit fashion blogger circles like wildfire and is still one of the most popular patterns. There are so many colors in the scarf that I find I can wear it with most things in my closet. Because of that, it's the one I most frequently wear. You can see me wearing it with a different outfit in this post from this January. Since this color combination has been so popular for so long, it's also easy to find it at multiple price points (which you will see in the widget and links below).
How to Tie A Messy Blanket Scarf
This is one of the simplest ways I wear a blanket scarf and I love the way it looks a little messy. This look is done with an oversized (53"- 60"), SQUARE scarf.First, fold the SQUARE scarf in half so that it forms a triangle.
Then, move your hands in closer to the middle of the scarf and hold up to your neck, passing the ends back behind the neck and crossing them over each other to bring them back to the front.
The next part is the trickiest. To make the ends stay under the edge of the scarf, roll the outer part of the scarf down over the end pieces that are hanging out underneath. It's a rolling/tucking motion. You can see me doing it in the following image. The next two show what the scarf looks like before and after rolling.
After that, you're done! (And quite cozy!)
I will be back another time with more ways to tie a blanket scarf. In the meantime, make sure to Pin this post so you can come back later!

Love that green cardigan! I have that exact same scarf and just can't handle all that extra material around my neck. I wish I could, because I think it looks great on everyone but me! I use it as a house blanket now. :)
ReplyDeleteAmy, I totally get that! There are days when it bothers my neck! Using it as a house blanket is a GREAT idea! I tend to pack mine with me when I go to conferences so I can pull it out as a blanket!
DeleteThis is the main way I wear blanket scarves, too! Love how easy your tutorial is to follow- very straightforward! That's also my most worn pattern, love it with the green!
